Mushrooms grown near the highways should not fall into the basket, because they become a receptacle for a variety of compounds that are dangerous to human life that make up the exhaust gases. You also need to beware of false chanterelles.
Irina Selyutina (Biologist):
Only knowing how to distinguish false chanterelles from real ones can you be sure of the quality of the mushrooms. Therefore, it is better to carefully study the features of false chanterelles once, than to constantly worry about whether those mushrooms are in the basket:
1. Where do they meet: coniferous and mixed forests (on deadwood and rotten wood, in forest floor and moss).
2. How do they grow: in small groups or singly, the peak of the number of growing specimens is late summer and autumn.
3. Hat:
- bright orange, maybe with a brown tint, and the center will necessarily be darker than the edges;
- the surface is velvety;
- edges: even, smooth, rounded;
- shape: in young specimens - slightly convex, in mature - a bit like a funnel;
- diameter about 3-6 cm.
4. Hymenophore: plates are often located, thin, branched, orange, do not pass to the stem.
5. Pulp: unpleasant odor, yellow, loose, tasteless. When pressed, the color does not change.
6. Leg: slender, hollow in mature specimens, clearly separated from the cap in appearance.
In order not to bring home orange talkers instead of real chanterelles, you need to be careful when collecting these mushrooms.
